The Urban and Community Forestry (UCF) Program is California’s leading effort to expand and enhance tree canopy in cities and towns. Administered by CAL FIRE, the program funds tree planting, green infrastructure, workforce development, and long-term care of urban forests. The focus is on greening underserved communities and mitigating the urban heat island effect. UCF grants also emphasize partnerships, public health, carbon sequestration, and community engagement—making it as much about people as trees.
